Lavezzi bids fond farewell to Napoli

Ezequiel Lavezzi is expecting his five-year stay at Napoli to come to an end in the near future and has paid tribute to the Partenopei supporters he will leave behind.

Lavezzi, 27, signed from San Lorenzo in 2007 and, alongside Marek Hamsik and Edinson Cavani, has played a major role in re-establishing Napoli as a major force in Italian football.

The Argentina star is now set to leave Stadio San Paolo though, with Paris Saint-Germain on the verge of tying up a €26 million deal.

Lavezzi does not know exactly when the deal will be confirmed, but he has nonetheless bid a fond farewell to the Napoli supporters.

"I don't know much about the negotiations," he told Il Mattino. "My agent is managing them. But from Napoli I will carry the extraordinary affection of the people in my heart.

"At times, they did not permit me that affection, but that makes the city special. At the beginning of my Neapolitan period, there were some who turned up their noses at me, said I was too chubby, but then I earned some credit and sympathy among the people.

"Napoli has propelled me forward and given me a great standing on the international stage."

On rumours that Napoli team-mate Cavani could also join PSG, Lavezzi said: "I would not know but I know that Edi is very happy at Napoli."
