Kansas City stunned by Union

Kansas City missed out on the chance to return to the top of the MLS Eastern Conference as they were hammered 4-0 by the struggling Philadelphia Union on Saturday night.

Jack McInerney scored twice in the first half and goals in the last 10 minutes from Lionard Pajoy, from the penalty spot, and substitute Antoine Hoppenot rounded off the win.

Kansas remain one point behind conference leaders DC United and two ahead of the New York Red Bulls.

The Chicago Fire moved fourth with a 2-1 win over the Columbus Crew despite the first-half dismissal of Gonzalo Segares.

The Fire already led 2-0 by that point, Marco Pappa scoring in the second minute and Dominic Oduro doubling the lead in the 36th. Tony Tchani pulled a goal back but the Crew could not find an equaliser.

Chicago leapfrog the Houston Dynamo, who were beaten 4-2 by the Montreal Impact. It was 2-2 at half-time, Houston twice drawing level through Brad Davis and Will Bruin after Sanna Nyassi and Davy Arnaud had put Montreal ahead, but Hassoun Camara's strike and Patrice Bernier's penalty gave the Canadian side victory and Houston had Adam Moffat sent off.

In the Western Conference, the San Jose Earthquakes won the battle of the top two to replace Real Salt Lake at the summit. Substitute Alan Gordon's 75th-minute opener was quickly cancelled out by Javier Morales, but Chris Wondolowski grabbed the winner with six minutes remaining.

The Los Angeles Galaxy were comfortable 3-0 winners over the Vancouver Whitecaps with all the goals coming in the first half. Mike Magee and Robbie Keane put them 2-0 up inside half an hour before Landon Donovan tucked away a penalty.

The New England Revolution staged a late comeback to earn a 2-2 draw against Toronto FC. First-half goals from Danny Koevermans and Ryan Johnson looked to have put Toronto in control but Blake Brettschneider pulled a goal back before Benny Feilhaber grabbed a last-minute equaliser.

FC Dallas drew 0-0 with Chivas USA in the day's other game.
