Rosell: Ronaldo 12th best in world
Barcelona president Sandro Rosell claims Cristiano Ronaldo would not be selected in his club's starting XI, stating the Real Madrid star is the "12th best player in the world".
Ronaldo this week reacted angrily to Danish fans who chanted "Messi, Messi, Messi" at him during a Euro 2012 game. Rosell took the opportunity to add to the rivalry between the clubs, suggesting not only is Lionel Messi better than Ronaldo, but the Portugal international would not make the Barcelona starting side.
"Cristiano Ronaldo is not the second best player in the world, he is the 12th," he told Spanish newspaper AS. "The first 11 are the Barcelona players. Outside Spain everyone is clear that Messi should win the Golden Ball, but here …"
The Barca chief also criticised Madrid boss Jose Mourinho, claiming he would rather have Tito Vilanova in charge of his club following the departure of Pep Guardiola. Mourinho and Vilanova clashed during last season's Spanish Supercopa when the Portuguese appeared to poke his Barcelona counterpart in the eye.
"I wouldn't accept a coach who wants to win at any cost. I would apologise if a coach put his finger in the eye of another," he said.
Ronaldo this season scored 46 goals as he helped Real Madrid win La Liga in a record-breaking season.
