De Jong keen on Man City stay

Nigel De Jong plans to extend his contract at Manchester City and hopes to help the club secure back-to-back Premier League titles.

De Jong, who bowed out of Euro 2012 with the Netherlands this week, was part of City's squad for last season's Premier League triumph, as well as the FA Cup win in 2011. The midfielder's current deal runs until next summer but, after enduring drawn-out negotiations in recent months, De Jong remains hopeful of staying on at the Etihad Stadium.

"My contract runs for another year, so I'm in a pretty good position," De Jong told Dutch magazine NUsport.

"I want to stay [at Manchester City]. I've been at the club for three years and I'm feeling really well. I have won the FA Cup and the league title, which are the biggest trophies in England."

Despite being used less frequently by Roberto Mancini last campaign, De Jong is happy with the role he is playing at City, as long as the team continues to win.

"It's part of the job that I occasionally warm the bench," he said. "We have a squad rotation system. I prefer to play all games, but it's all about the team. We eventually won the title, so it was worth it."
