Vertonghen committed to Spurs move

Jan Vertonghen's agent has revealed the player is still happy to sign for Tottenham Hotspur despite Harry Redknapp's departure from the club.

Redknapp's exit from Spurs was confirmed on Thursday after they ended talks over a new contract. Spurs failed to qualify for the Champions League after a poor run of form from February saw them caught by arch-rivals Arsenal while Chelsea's win in the final of Europe's premier club competition meant fourth in the Premier League was not good enough.

With Spurs yet to complete the signing of defender Vertonghen from Ajax as they haggle over the price, it was speculated that the move could now break down.

"Nothing has changed at all. He is coming to Tottenham for the club and not for the manager,'' agent Mustapha Nakhli said. "Managers come and go. Of course Jan is sorry that Harry Redknapp is no longer there but he is going for the club.

"We have a good relationship with [Spurs chairman] Daniel Levy. He wants the deal to happen and there is a good atmosphere (between us). I don't know when it will happen but the deal is close, very close.''

Two weeks ago after lauding the Premier League, Vertonghen was asked whether Tottenham was the club he wanted to join. He said: "Yes. I know where I want to go and I think it is clear to everybody. I am a big fan of the Premier League. It is almost the only competition I watch on TV and for me it is the best competition in the world.''
