Sydney to host World Cup soccer qualifiers

The Socceroos will play two World Cup qualifying matches in Sydney next year as they seek direct entry to the 2014 tournament in Brazil.

Football Federation Australia (FFA) announced on Wednesday night that ANZ Stadium will host the Socceroos' Asian Group qualifiers against Oman on March 26 and Iraq on June 18.

Australia will be aiming to make their third successive finals appearance after a strong showing in Germany in 2006 was followed by a more modest campaign in South Africa in 2010.

Holger Osieck's team will book their ticket to Brazil by finishing in the top two in their group that includes Japan, Iraq, Jordan and Oman, who they play in their opening qualifier in Muscat on Friday.

Brisbane's Suncorp Stadium has already been confirmed as the venue for the Socceroos' first of four home qualifiers, to be played against Japan on Tuesday.

The venue for the last home match against Jordan on June 11 next year is yet to be announced.
