Cicinho heading home

Former Real Madrid defender Cicinho has confirmed he will return to Brazil once his contract with AS Roma expires at the end of the month.

Cicinho swapped Madrid for Rome in an €11 million deal in 2007 but has struggled to hold down a place in the Italian side in recent seasons.

The 31-year-old had loan spells at Sao Paulo and Villarreal before returning to Roma last summer, but made just two league appearances in the 2011/12 Serie A campaign.

"I will return to play my football in Brazil, but not with Sao Paulo,'' Cicinho said to Gazzetta dello Sport. "I have spoken with my agent and he is in advanced talks with a club from the south of the country.''

Cicinho, who won the Club World Cup with Sao Paulo in 2005, has also previously played for Botafogo and Atletico Mineiro in Brazil.
