Zdenek Zeman has confirmed he is in advanced talks with Roma over the vacant coaching position.
Zeman, 65, is considered the favourite to replace Luis Enrique, who resigned from the post earlier this month.
"I've had talks with Roma and we are already at an advanced stage," Zeman told Gazzetta dello Sport.
The Czech coach guided Roma from 1997 until 1999 and is looking forward to working with club captain Francesco Totti again.
"It's too early to talk about this (the project)," he said. "But if Totti proves he is in good form then he will always play.
"With me, those that work hard in training always play, regardless of their names or ages."
Zeman recently led Pescara to promotion to Italy's top flight in his first season at the club.
Roma endured a disappointing campaign under Luis Enrique and finished outside of the Serie A European places in seventh.
