Hodgson hints at XI for opener

England manager Roy Hodgson has hinted that the team he picks for Saturday's friendly against Belgium could be the same as for the Euro 2012 opener against France.

Hodgson oversaw a 1-0 triumph against Norway in his first game in charge and said a number of fringe players who featured in Oslo had "put a spanner in the works" in terms of his selection for the European Championships.

England have a week to train before the clash with Belgium, which will be the final game before Hodgson takes his team to Poland to face France, Sweden and co-hosts Ukraine and must settle on his selection.

"There is a good chance that some of the players who play against Belgium on Saturday will also be involved in the game against France," Hodgson said.

"But a few players have put spanners in the works. It has given me something to think about."

Injured Manchester City midfielder Gareth Barry will undergo a scan on his hamstring on Monday, after which will decide whether to include him in his final.

Barry came on as a second half substitute in the 1-0 victory over Norway, but limped off with 17 minutes remaining after feeling a pain in his leg.

Hodgson must submit his finalised 23-man squad for the Euros to UEFA on Tuesday, and the former West Brom manager will now wait on the result of Barry's scan before making his decision.

Monday could prove a crucial date for Hodgson, with Glen Johnson (infected toe) and Danny Welbeck (ankle) also set to undergo final assessments on niggling injuries.
