Rafael Van der Vaart has advised his Netherlands team-mate Adam Maher to continue his development in the Eredivisie, rather than move to one of Europe's giants.
Maher, 18, having been voted the country's Young Player of the year this campaign, is reportedly a serious target for the likes of Manchester City and Barcelona.
On the day that Maher was cut from the Dutch squad for Euro 2012, though, Van der Vaart offered some advice to his young compatriot.
"He should stay for a few years at AZ, or at least in the Netherlands. It is much harder to get a place [in a team] abroad, and you will only become a good player by playing," the Tottenham star told De Telegraaf.
"Adam has surprised me in a positive sense. [He] has much talent, and he has shown that here in the camp, that he is ready for the Oranje. The first sessions are tricky for any newcomer."
Netherlands take on Bulgaria at 19.00 BST on Saturday in the next of their Euro 2012 warm-up friendlies.
