Deschamps 'expecting' Marseille stay

Marseille manager Didier Deschamps believes he will still be at the Stade Velodrome next season amid speculation linking him with the Liverpool job for the second time in as many years.

Deschamps, 43, was courted by the Reds when Rafa Benitez left the club in 2010, but rejected the chance to move to Anfield because he had already committed himself to a new contract with l'OM.

The former Chelsea and Juventus midfielder, who lifted the World Cup as France captain in 1998, led Marseille to a disappointing finish of tenth in Ligue 1 this season but has nonetheless seen his name crop up again in relation to the Liverpool position since Kenny Dalglish was axed last week.

However, Deschamps is convinced that his future lies in the south of France rather than on Merseyside.

"It is expected that I will be there [Marseille] next season," he said. "When it goes badly, there is need to recharge. I will leave on vacation but it is expected that I'll be there for July 2."

Swansea boss Brendan Rodgers and Ajax chief Frank de Boer have both ruled themselves out of the Liverpool running, while Andre Villas-Boas and Wigan's Roberto Martinez are expected to hold talks with the owners soon on American soil.
