Willem II secure promotion

Willem II will be playing in the Eredivisie for next season after beating FC Den Bosch 2-1 in the second leg of their play-off.

• FC Den Bosch 0 Willem II 0

Having earned a goalless draw from Thursday's first leg at the Stadion De Vliert, Willem II completed the job at home thanks to goals from Marc Hocher and Jens Podevijn.

Hocher opened the scoring in the 17th minute with a fine finish before Den Bosch were reduced to ten men midway through the second half when Ralf Seuntjens was sent off.

Not long after that dismissal, the match was delayed for over ten minutes due to crowd trouble, with Den Bosch supporters throwing objects onto the pitch. Play was able to restart, though, and immediately Willem doubled their lead through Podevijn.

Den Bosch pulled a goal back right at the end through Bart van Brakel's free-kick but they did not have enough time left to find an equaliser as Willem held on to claim their spot back in the top flight having been relegated in 2011.

The two second division rivals looked understandably nervy at the start of the match but Willem eased the tension for the home fans with a superb opening goal from Hocher.

Cutting in from the left, the striker beat Tim Hofstede before slamming a rising shot past visiting goalkeeper Kevin Begois, who got a hand to the ball but could not keep it out.

Den Bosch sought an immediate response as they went back on the attack, but they almost found themselves 2-0 down in the 26th minute when Robbie Haemhouts struck the post with a header.

Willem striker Virgil Misidjan also fired a shot into the side-netting as the home side looked to increase their lead before the break.

With their Eredivisie dreams slipping away, Den Bosch came out firing after half-time and home goalkeeper David Meul was called on three times early on to keep his side in the ascendancy, the pick of his saves seeing him deflect Seuntjens' header behind for a corner.

Meul also produced another great save in the 70th minute to keep out Tom van Weert's close-range effort from a Seuntjens pass.

However, Den Bosch's attempted fightback suffered a massive blow soon after that when Seuntjens picked up a second yellow card to leave the visitors with a man less.

The match was then delayed because of the crowd incidents, but once play resumed Willem all but finished off their opponents' hopes when, straight after the restart, Haemhouts sending over a cross from the left which Podevijn quickly latched onto to drill home a shot from 10 yards out.

Den Bosch got on the scoresheet three minutes into stoppage time when Van Brakel found the back of the net with a free-kick from the edge of the box, but it was too little too late to deny Willem.
