Hodgson: Don't write off Chelsea

New England manager Roy Hodgson believes that it would be foolish to write Chelsea off ahead of the Champions League final in Munich.

Hodgson would have been at the Allianz Arena anyway in his capacity as a member of UEFA's technical study group, but is now attending in his new official capacity.

Hodgson will no doubt have an eye on the three likely members of Chelsea's starting line-up - Ashley Cole, Gary Cahill and Frank Lampard - to face Bayern Munich.

Hodgson has seen the assessments of how one-sided this final is reportedly going to be, but disagrees based on his knowledge of Chelsea and their performance in this year's tournament.

"It will be a lot closer than some of the pundits are predicting. Most people are writing Chelsea off but I don't see them as underdogs at all," Hodgson told the official FA website.

"They have done extremely well to get to the final, they eliminated the favourites to win the tournament with two splendid performances. If they get anywhere close to those performances they have got every chance.''
