Who could be leaving Chelsea?

Rio speaks of Euro disappointment

Rio Ferdinand says it would be an "understatement of the highest order" to say he was gutted to miss out on England's squad for the forthcoming European Championships.

Ferdinand, 33, was left out of Roy Hodgson's 23-man squad for the summer tournament in Poland and Ukraine, with the national team coach insisting it was for footballing reasons despite widespread speculation about the Manchester United defender's refusal to play alongside Chelsea centre-back John Terry.

Terry is currently awaiting a court case over alleged racial remarks made in the direction of Ferdinand's brother, QPR defender Anton.

"Absolutely loved playing for England," Ferdinand said on Twitter. "To say I'm gutted is an understatement of the highest order..."

Ferdinand has received 81 caps during his illustrious career, although his latest omission means he is still to play in a European Championships. The former West Ham and Leeds United player narrowly missed out on selection for Kevin Keegan's squad for the 2000 tournament, while a drugs ban made him unavailable for Euro 2004 in Portugal. England infamously failed to qualify for the 2008 tournament.
