Dortmund's Kagawa on Man Utd radar

As Borussia Dortmund thrashed Bayern Munich to claim the DFB-Pokal trophy, speculation has grown that BVB forward Shinji Kagawa is set to make a switch to the Premier League.

Kagawa was watched closely in Berlin by Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson and assistant Mike Phelan. United have been linked with the Japan international recently, with quotes coming out of the 23-year-old's homeland suggesting he is about to leave Borussia Dortmund for Old Trafford.

Kagawa certainly did himself no harm with his final performance, scoring the opener as Dortmund cruised to a 5-2 victory to complete the German domestic double.

The player has opted not to sign a new contract with his current club and has said he would make a decision about his future after the current season. After the game, Kagawa said: "For sure Manchester is a great club, but what the future holds I do not know yet."

Ferguson's presence - less than 24 hours before his own side will try to defy overwhelming odds and retain their Premier League crown - does seem significant.

Kagawa's team-mate Mats Hummels, meanwhile, believes it is inevitable that he will depart Signal Iduna Park this summer.

"Shinji is a world-class player, but honestly, I don't expect him to stay with us. Otherwise, he would have extended his contract by now," Hummels told Bild. "However, I'm not scared because we're going to get Marco Reus and we won't be losing any quality."
