Mancini: We've played the best football

Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini fired one last barb toward rivals United ahead of the season finale, stating regardless of which club claims the Premier League title his side have "played the best football in England".

• Johnson: What's at stake on Sunday

Mancini is on the brink of guiding City to their first title for 44 years as they head into their final game of the season leading the table on goal difference from Manchester United. City head into their clash against QPR having scored 90 goals, two more than United, and Mancini insists his charges have produced the more entertaining style of football.

"I think in the end the team that wins deserves to win, always," Mancini said. "We have played the better football, 100%, even if we don't win, we played the better football.

"It is important we score enough goals to win the title. I think we played really well for six months, for me the best football in the Premier League.

"Like other teams, it is impossible to play well every game. We had one month where we had a problem - we didn't play well, we conceded easy goals, we didn't score. But this is normal.

"I think in the end, even if after Sunday we don't win the title, we played the best football in England."

United manager Sir Alex Ferguson earlier suggested City retreated to play a defensive style during the recent derby between the two clubs, which City won 1-0 to reclaim top spot. However, with City needing only a win over 17th-placed Rangers at home in the final round, Ferguson conceded he must hope for "something stupid" to happen in order for United to steal away the title.

Mancini, meanwhile, played down the significance of comments from midfield talisman Yaya Toure this week suggesting he would like to finish his career at former club Barcelona. Mancini believes the remarks have been misinterpreted.

"I don't think Yaya said this [he wants to leave]," Mancini said. "Maybe he said he likes Barca because he played there, Barca is the best team in the world. But I think he is happy here. I don't think he can leave Manchester City."
