Comolli: Carroll can only get better

Liverpool's former director of football Damien Comolli feels striker Andy Carroll is on the path to greatness.

Carroll grateful for Dalglish support

Comolli played a key part in bringing Carroll to Anfield from Newcastle in a £35 million deal in January of 2011. After an underwhelming first year at the club, questions were asked about the merit of shelling out such a sum on the forward.

But Carroll has turned things around in recent weeks and is in the running to claim a place in Roy Hodgson's England squad for Euro 2012.

At 23, Carroll has progress to make but Comolli feels the forward is a better player than when he arrived at the club from Newcastle.

"He's a much better player technically, his runs are better, he's very fit, his lifestyle is very good - he was never drinking or doing stupid things," Comolli told talkSPORT.

"It's part of an education process. All the stats prove that strikers, especially target strikers, peak when they are 26. He's 23.

"He's got so much more to come, it's incredible. I think we are only seeing the beginning. He's intelligent, he's dedicated, he listens, he's got a good lifestyle. I don't see why he shouldn't be a success."
