Rodgers looks to learn from Spain

Swansea manager Brendan Rodgers plans to "keep on top of the game" when he spends four days with world and European champions Spain at their pre-Euro 2012 training camp.

• Sigurdsson hopes for English stay

Rodgers will link up with Vicente del Bosque's side at their pre-tournament training camp in Schruns, Austria, the week after next.

Swansea, promoted through the play-offs last season, are already certain of safety ahead of Sunday's final game of the season, and they can still claim a top-ten finish with victory over Liverpool at the Liberty Stadium.

Swansea's acclaimed passing style has brought comparisons to the manner in which Barcelona and Spain have achieved their recent successes.

Rodgers hopes that his trip, organised with the help of respected Spanish football pundit Guillem Balague to observe the likes of Del Bosque, Xavi, Andres Iniesta and Gerard Pique, will come in handy when the next Premier League season rolls around.

He said: "I am going there for a few days to watch training and mix with the staff and people there and just exchange ideas. I am always one who believes it is too difficult in-season to do that, as you are so busy and so tied up on a daily and weekly basis.

"I have done it all my life at the end of seasons - I have looked to go away and keep on top of the game at the leading edge. It's a commitment to learning and development which has been a part of my cycle as a person and a coach.

"They are the world champions, they are the European champions, I am fortunate enough to speak a bit of the language so it will be great to be in their company and see their preparations.

"Then I come back and travel to New York to see Wales play so I will be interested to see how my players feature out there against a very good Mexican team."

Before those trips Swansea will face Kenny Dalglish's beaten FA Cup finalists, with Rodgers expecting a "carnival" atmosphere at the Liberty Stadium.

Rodgers has called on Swansea fans to come to the match dressed in Elvis Presley costumes, having noted a bookmaker's statement that there was more chance of a sighting of 'the King' or an alien than Swansea staying in the top flight for more than one season.

Fancy dress shops in the city have found themselves struggling to cope with the demand, and the home crowd are set to become record-breakers by beating the current highest total of Elvis impersonators in one place, which currently stands at 645.

Rodgers said: "It's important to celebrate success. I have been living in Swansea for nearly two years and it does not take an awful lot to produce that carnival atmosphere, they love to party down here and celebrate.

"The achievement of the players this season has been phenomenal and when I heard back in pre-season about there being a greater chance of seeing Elvis or an alien I kept that up my sleeve until we were safe.

"It will be a great day for us, it's been a brilliant season for us and the city. It's a wee bit of fun, if you've ever been to Wind Street down here, which I've experienced a couple of times, it's a real carnival, they like to dress up in Swansea and I am sure they will do the same on Sunday."
