Yaya sees period of dominance at City

Yaya Toure feels Manchester City are on the path to greatness and is hopeful Premier League glory will be the springboard to major success.

• Mancini: It depends on us

City have spent heavily since Sheikh Mansour took control of the club and they are in all probability one win away from clinching the Premier League. They lead Manchester United on goal difference ahead of the final game of the season and entertain QPR on Sunday.

Toure has been a key figure for City this term and he scored twice in the win over Newcastle on Sunday. The Ivorian is refusing to take QPR for granted, but is aware that the club are close to ending their 44-year wait for league glory.

"Always I have said this club can go far, this club can win something," Toure told citytv. "Khaldoon [Al Mubarak, City chairman] and Mansour are doing incredibly well. They have signed big players and they want to make this club a great club, one of the best clubs in Europe, and they are going the right way.

"Last year, we won the FA Cup and we have to continue like that and next week try to win the game against QPR.

"We know it's going to be tough, but I believe in this team, I believe in the players we have. We have some fantastic players."

Toure joined City from Barcelona in 2010 and feels title glory will be the ideal riposte to those who questioned his motives in moving to the club.

He said: "I have always said I came to this club to make history even if some people said I came for different things.

"I am keeping going to tell them I came to this club to make history, and that is my first objective, to help make the club into a successful football club."
