McCoist welcomes Miller news

Rangers manager Ally McCoist believes the club has taken a step in the right direction after Bill Miller was named preferred bidder by administrators on Thursday.

Duff and Phelps opted for Miller's bid ahead of a rival offer from the Blue Knights consortium led by former Ibrox director Paul Murray and backed by Sale Sharks owner Brian Kennedy.

The American trucking tycoon hopes to complete his takeover before the end of the season.

Miller's plan is then to create what he described as an 'incubator company' while administrators bid to take the club out of administration through a Company Voluntary Arrangement.

McCoist can understand fans' reservations, following what has been a turbulent year under owner Craig Whyte, but again urged them to give Miller a chance.

He said: "It's definitely good news because one of the processes that would have to occur in a positive manner is the preferred bidder status. The fact that the administrators have appointed a preferred bidder in the shape of Bill Miller must be a positive move.

"Of course, I can understand the vast majority of supporters being a little bit guarded and wary, not of the individual, but of the situation. After what the club has been through in the last year or so, I can understand peoples' concerns. But, at the same time, it`s definitely a step in the right direction and we must give people a chance.''

McCoist has had a number of telephone conversations with Miller and now hopes to meet face to face with the man who could become Rangers' new owner.

He added: "I've spoken to Bill in the last couple of days and we both agree it's very important that we do get together. I would imagine certainly in the near future that Bill and I will be meeting."
