Robben pens two-year Bayern extension

Netherlands winger Arjen Robben has put pen to paper on a new two-year contract with Bayern Munich, which will keep him at the Allianz Arena until 2015.

Robben: Chelsea up there with the best

Robben's future has been the subject of conjecture for many months with the Dutchman regularly refusing to commit to the Bavarians.

However, Bayern chief executive Karl-Heinz Bayern Rummenigge claimed on Wednesday that "Arjen will stay at Bayern in the long-term" and so it has proved as the club officially announced on Thursday that a new deal has been signed.

"I've always emphasised that I feel very, very settled in Munich and at FC Bayern,'' Robben told the club's official website. "This is the reason I'm glad to extend my contract ahead of its expiry [in 2013].

"FC Bayern is like a family to me. Two of my three children were born in Munich, and my family and I feel at home here. This contract extension is also the right decision for me from a sporting perspective.

"We have a magnificent team, and I'm certain we'll enjoy the maximum possible footballing success in the years to come.''

Rummenigge added: "We're extremely pleased that we've extended Arjen's contract a year before its expiry by two further years until 2015. Arjen is a very important player for FC Bayern, and also a guarantee of the club's continuing success in the future.''

Robben, who joined the club from Real Madrid in 2009, has scored 17 goals this season to help Bayern to a second-place finish in the Bundesliga and a place in the Champions League final later this month.
