Hodgson considers new coach

Roy Hodgson is seeking a new England coach to help provide a conduit in the dressing room but no one has yet been approached.

• Redknapp gives up on England
• FA critical of Hodgson coverage

Media reports suggest Paul Ince could be approached, but ESPN understands the former Blackburn manager's name has not cropped up in discussions. Everton midfielder Phil Neville and former Newcastle manager Alan Shearer - who had earlier turned down the task of being a No. 2 with England - are under consideration.

The new England head coach has a mandate from the FA to chose his own backroom staff, but only one or two appointments are likely as much of the team is already in place.

"The process has begun to find someone Roy wants to work with and who would fulfil a vital function within the dressing room," a source told ESPN. "Clearly someone like Phil Neville would be the kind of person Roy would be looking at, but he is still playing, while Alan Shearer has turned it down once, so who knows?"

Stuart Pearce, who had taken charge of the team following Fabio Capello's resignation, will now focus on Team GB for the forthcoming Olympics.
