Battle for fourth hots up

Papiss Demba Cisse maintained his remarkable goalscoring run as Newcastle beat high-flying Chelsea 2-0 at Stamford Bridge.

• Muamba thanks fans on return
•  Jolly: Spurs have their mojo back
• Palmer: Toon end Chelsea hopes

The Senegal international scored his 13th goal in 12 games since joining the Magpies in January with two remarkable strikes as Alan Pardew's men kept their hopes of a top-four spot alive.

Cisse opened the scoring after 19 minutes, collecting Davide Santon's pass at the edge of the area before sending a superb right-footed volley past Petr Cech.

If the first goal was impressive, the second was sensational. Out wide on the left, Cisse hit a superb banana shot with the outside of his boot, which dipped beneath the crossbar to seal an impressive win in stoppage time.

But fifth-placed Newcastle are out of the Champions League spots on goal difference after Tottenham beat Bolton 4-1 at the Reebok Stadium.

In a match attended by Fabrice Muamba, three goals in the space of ten minutes after the hour-mark effectively killed the game as a contest after Nigel Reo-Coker cancelled out Luka Modric's stunning first-half volley.

Modric collected Rafael van der Vaart's corner before unleashing a swerving volley past Adam Bogdan.

Having pulled themselves level through Reo-Coker's equaliser, Bolton were rocked by two goals in as many minutes as Spurs scored on the break.

Bale's run down the left stretched the Trotters defence, allowing Van der Vaart to stab home before Lennon raced onto a long ball, squaring for Emmanuel Adebayor to finish. And Adebayor put the game beyond Bolton seven minutes later, casually rounding Bogdan to score.

The victory took Spurs within a point of third-placed Arsenal but left Bolton in deep relegation trouble.
