United youngsters set for loan exodus

A host of Manchester United reserve-team players will be sent out on loan next season to further their football education, Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed.

• Welbeck injury worry for United
• Top 20 FA Cup moments

United's youngsters have swept all before them in winning the Premier Reserve League North by 13 points this season, with teenage striker Will Keane the competition's leading scorer with 15 goals.

The Red Devils' reserve team is dominated by members of last year's FA Youth Cup-winning side, with the likes of Will and Michael Keane, Zeki Fryers and Larnell Cole impressing after stepping up.

Those four players have all tasted first-team action in 2011-12, along with Paul Pogba and Ravel Morrison, and Ferguson is keen for his younger players to hone their trade in a more competitive envrionment, either with other Premier League clubs or in the Football League.

"There will be a few [going out on loan]," Ferguson told Inside United. "We'll always do that. We have eight or nine out at the moment, including Robbie Brady, Scott Wootton, Joshua King and John Cofie. I went to see Oliver Norwood at Coventry recently and he's been a star for them.

"Some of them will definitely go out again next season: potentially the two Keane brothers, Tom Thorpe, [reserve team captain] Davide Petrucci, Zeki Fryers and Matty James, who was out for a year-and-a-half through injury but is back now and playing well for the reserves. Marnick Vermijl will probably stay here for another year yet.

"We have some terrific young players here: Lingard, Cole, the two Keanes, Petrucci, Fryers, Vermijl, [Ryan] Tunnicliffe, Thorpe. Of the team who won the Youth Cup last year, seven have been in the first team at different points this season: Pogba, Morrison, Fryers, Cole, Lingard and the Keanes.

"It's a good group of players. The present youth team lost in the semi-finals of the cup but they had only three second-year boys, whereas [their opponents] Chelsea were all second-year scholars... so they didn't let themselves down."
