Hodgson close to England appointment

Roy Hodgson could be named England manager on Tuesday after he held "positive" talks with the FA.

• Hodgson holds England talks

• FA did not sound out Redknapp
• Redknapp holds no grudges
• Hoddle backs FA decision

West Brom manager Hodgson met FA officials on Monday afternoon for a four-hour discussion and his appointment is to be confirmed in the near future.

Sources say the meeting at Wembley took the form of "talks" rather than an interview, suggesting that the decision to hire Hodgson as Fabio Capello's successor had already been made.

Personal terms are being thrashed out, and a source outside the FA told ESPN that Hodgson would be realistic over the matter and that the days of inflated salaries for an England manager are over.

Instead of the £6 million-a-year paid to Capello, the next England manager could be on a far more modest £2 million-a-year with big bonuses related to success - notably taking England beyond the quarter-finals in tournaments. Harry Redknapp's salary demands may have caused the FA to look elsewhere as he currently earns £3.5 million-a-year at White Hart Lane, with a potential £1 million bonus for securing Champions League football.
