Larsson undergoes hernia op
Sunderland and Sweden midfielder Sebastian Larsson will miss the rest of the Premier League season after undergoing a hernia operation but hopes to be fit for Euro 2012, the Wearside club have announced.
Larsson had the operation in Manchester earlier this week after being granted leave to do so by manager Martin O'Neill.
"I have had problems with groin pain for a couple of weeks now," Larsson said. "I am extremely grateful to the club supporting me and giving me this opportunity to have the operation immediately.
"This means the conditions to be prepared for Euro 2012 are much better than if I had to wait until the end of the season.
"With this solution, I will have a couple of weeks for rehabilitation and after that hopefully I will be able to practice in full with the Swedish team - under the condition I am selected."
The former Birmingham City man, who joined on a free transfer in the summer, has bagged eight goals in 39 appearances.
