Mourinho: Bayern record meaningless

Jose Mourinho insists Real Madrid's previous meetings with Bayern Munich will have no bearing on the sides' upcoming Champions League semi-final tie.

• Bayern blog: Insignificant football match

Real travel to the Allianz Arena for Tuesday's first leg having never beaten Bayern in Munich - a stat that has been recalled with increasing regularity by the Bavarians' hierarchy in the build-up to the game.

But Mourinho is confident that Los Blancos will not dwell on their away to Bayern as they battle to book a return to Munich for the Champions League final in May.

"The past is all about meaningless numbers," Mourinho said. "History will not play a factor. This will be a different match from the previous ones. This is a semi-final; those who play it want to win.

"Bayern have the special motivation as the final is in Munich, but we have the motivation of being here for the second year in a row. We will see what happens.

"Bayern will play with a lot of heart, which is nice in football, but they can also play very well. I think that this match will be more tactical than normal and that it will be a great game."

Having won league titles in Portugal, England and Italy, Mourinho stands on the brink of repeating the feat in Spain with his Real side currently leading Barcelona at the top of the Primera Division.

In the pre-match press conference ahead of of Tuesday's clash with Bayern, the Portuguese boss was asked if he would be tempted to try to add a Bundesliga title to that collection in the future, but appeared unconvinced that managing in Germany could be an option.

"I cannot work in a country where I need a translator, that is impossible for me," Mourinho said. "Communication is key, talking to the players, setting up the training sessions and I do not speak German.

"It would be very hard for me to coach in Germany. But I really like the Bundesliga, it is an amazing league, and not many coaches would say 'no' to Bayern."
