Holt hopeful of England call-up

Grant Holt is eyeing a place in the England squad for the Euro 2012 championships and hopes he can push his claims further when Norwich travel to Tottenham on Monday.

• Canaries show spirit in draw

Holt is the second highest English scorer in the Premier League having bagged 13 goals and with Wayne Rooney banned for the first two games of the Euros and Darren Bent a big injury doubt, England may turn to Holt.

Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp is the overwhelming favourite to become the next England manager and Holt acknowledges that Monday's game at White Hart Lane could turn in to an audition which could see him make the cut for this summer's tournament.

"Tottenham are a very good side so I'll have to get the ball first, but I could show Harry I've got a little bit about me on Monday," Holt said.

Some of England's stars have been accused of not showing enough passion when turning out for their country, but there is little doubt what earning his first cap would mean to Holt.

"I've been an England supporter for almost 31 years so it's the dream, isn't it?" he said. "Obviously I want to play for England. If (selection) goes on goals and recent performances, recent stats, then I'll be in. I obviously can give (the team) another angle."

Canaries boss Paul Lambert has had to field 'Holt for England' questions a lot of late, but the man himself is keen not to get distracted by the idea of an international call-up.

"Whoever comes in, it's up to them. If he picks me I'll gladly play for them," Holt said. "It doesn't always go on stats. I have seen a lot of players get call-ups who shouldn't and a lot who should get picked but don't get picked.

"That's just the way football is. Every manager is different and they'll either like me or they won't and I'll get picked or I won't get picked."
