Nene apologises for bad reaction

Paris St Germain winger Nene has apologised for his reaction to being told he would start last weekend's game at Nancy on the bench and declared himself fully committed to the capital club.

Nene, 30, was frustrated to learn he would not start Saturday night's encounter at the Stade Marcel Picot, which PSG ended up losing 2-1 to leave them level on points with Montpellier and having played a game more than their fellow Ligue 1 pacesetters.

The Brazilian spoke to the club's website to clear up what had happened and admitted he had displayed the wrong attitude.

"A lot of people are spouting a whole lot of rubbish, so I felt I should express myself to explain what happened in Nancy to my fans,'' he said.

"Everyone saw that I was disappointed to be on the bench, but I think that's normal because I wanted to get out there and help my team-mates win the match.

"I reacted badly to my team-mates. I didn't speak and it wasn't the right attitude. Every game the substitutes motivate and gee us up and that's what I should have done.

"I just sat there all night. I didn't go banging on doors looking for explanations and I didn't refuse to come on in the second half like some people said - that's completely absurd. The coach decided to drop me to the bench and I respect that decision.''

The player's future at the Parc des Princes had been placed in doubt by his behaviour, with reports suggesting he had threatened never to wear the PSG shirt again.

But he was quick to play down such talk, adding: "Absolute rubbish, again. I love this club and I fight hard every day, not just in the games but in training as well. I always give 100% and I think the supporters know it.

"I never said anything like that and I never would, out of respect for everything this club has done for me and the fans who have always supported me.

"These rumours really infuriate me and no-one knows where they came from. I'm 100% behind my team and I want to win the championship this season.

"We have eight games left and we can't afford to look at things from an individual perspective. I reacted badly and I apologised to my team-mates. I want to help the whole team reach its objectives.''

Carlo Ancelotti's side could take a step towards the Ligue 1 title with victory in Sunday night's Classico against ninth-placed Marseille.
