Di Matteo shrugs off Chelsea job talk

Roberto Di Matteo is refusing to get carried away by the prospect of taking charge of Chelsea on a permanent basis.

• Jesus warning for 'lucky' Chelsea

The Italian was handed the reins as a temporary measure following the departure of Andre Villas-Boas and has done his cause no harm by keeping the club in the hunt for Champions League and FA Cup honours.

Chelsea meet Benfica in the second leg of their Champions League quarter-final on Wednesday, while they face Tottenham in the FA Cup semi-finals a week on Sunday.

Securing a trophy, particularly the Champions League, would put Di Matteo in a strong position but he is not looking too far ahead.

"I don't think about it [my position]," he said. "I'm full-on in my work to prepare the team tactically and physically, so I haven't thought about that.

"I'm very happy to be a temporary interim coach for the season. I need to win games - it's as simple as that. The next step for us is to win the game [against Benfica] and to reach the next round."
