Doni's Liverpool future uncertain

Liverpool goalkeeper Alexander Doni has admitted his future is uncertain after revealing that he is unsettled at Anfield.

• Liverpool take an April fall

Doni, 32, joined Liverpool from Roma on a free transfer last summer but has yet to make his debut for the Reds, with Pepe Reina the club's first-choice goalkeeper.

However, the Brazilian could be in line to make his bow against Aston Villa this weekend after Reina was handed a three-match ban after being sent off for an apparent headbutt in Liverpool's 2-0 loss at Newcastle on Sunday.

"Next year, I do not know where I will play," Doni told Radio Sport Mana Mana, "Being on the bench is not great.

"Liverpool have changed so much. There have been lots of ups and downs, but I'm learning the language and the experience is beautiful.

"I miss [former club] Roma a lot because it always rains here in Liverpool."

Doni is being backed by team-mate Sebastian Coates to impress should he be called upon for the forthcoming matches versus Villa, Blackburn and Everton in the FA Cup semi-finals.

"Alexander is a great person and a great goalkeeper. I am sure he will do really well," said Coates "He has played for Brazil, one of the greatest national teams in the world, so he is used to playing in big games.

"He perhaps hasn't had an opportunity because obviously we have Pepe, but I think he will do well. I think he will make the most of every opportunity that's given to him. He is a great teammate and we all wish him well."
