Kosmina absent from Reds' ACL match

Adelaide United are seeking a third straight Asian Champions League win in South Korea with coach John Kosmina thousands of kilometres away.

Kosmina will be in Canberra when the Reds meet Pohang Steelers on Tuesday night, taking his 'A' coaching licence course.

Kosmina's assistant Luciano Trani has taken the formal reins of Adelaide's ACL campaign, with Kosmina's current qualifications not recognised by the Asian Football Federation.

The Reds enter the clash against the formidable K-League outfit buoyed by successive triumphs to start their Asian campaign.

"Obviously we do have six points and teams are looking to beat us so they can be in the race for the top two and Pohang is no different," Reds captain Eugene Galekovic said in Pohang on Monday.

"They know that if they beat us they're going to be equal top.

"So we probably are the hunted now, which is different because we're used to flying under the radar."

Galekovic and Adelaide have beaten the Steelers on home turf before, giving further confidence to the South Australians.

"The boys are quietly confident going into the game," Galekovic said.

"Obviously we have been to Pohang and got some good results. It does bring a bit of belief into the team.

"Starting this competition so well just breeds confidence and every time you get results it breeds more confidence."

Trani said the Reds would need their main game to get a result, forecasting a defensive approach to their task.

"Pohang has a number of quality players and we respect them as a side," Trani said.

"We're expecting Pohang to come and play an attacking game so we have got to be very strong from a defending point of view.

"And that is something we have got to understand - that Pohang need to win to be equal on the amount of points as us.
