Yaya: Stars are here for silverware

Yaya Toure has insisted Manchester City's big-name players are at Eastlands to win trophies and not pocket huge wages.

• Mourinho: No City contact
• Kompany back for City
• Manchester City v Sunderland preview

City are in a straight fight for the Premier League title with Manchester United, who are now favourites after spending much of the campaign chasing their rivals. United are renowned strong finishers and have momentum on their side after a run of six wins on the spin in the Premier League.

After spending much of the season talking bullishly about their chances, City are now a little more reserved and Toure knows it will be "very, very tough" to get the job done.

He feels they will be stronger as a unit next season, with the focus of the likes of Sergio Aguero, Samir Nasri and Edin Dzeko being on trophies not money.

"Players like Sergio Aguero, David Silva and Mario Balotelli have come here with me to City for one thing," Toure told The Sun. "Not for money - but to win games and win trophies."

Looking at the title race, Toure said: "We know Manchester United are a fantastically strong team with fantastic experience - more than any other team - so it will be very, very tough."

Toure arrived at City from Barcelona and he feels Roberto Mancini's side can dominate like Barca with a full season of working together under their belts.

"What we did at Barca was a perfect example of what we need to do now," he said. "The thing at the Nou Camp was that we had known each other for two years. We played together for two years and in the second year we won everything, picking up six cups."
