Guardiola: Barca bossed despite pitch

Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola felt his side "dominated" their Champions League quarter-final first-leg against AC Milan, though he felt the San Siro surface hampered them in the 0-0 draw.

Barca enjoyed their customary large slice of possession during Wednesday night's stalemate but could not breach a resolute Milan defence to claim a valuable away goal.

During the match Guardiola appeared visibly frustrated by his players' inability to find the back of the net, however he refused to criticise their profligacy after the game and instead reflected on the positives.

"We played well, we had possession and we dominated," Guardiola said. "At half-time, I told my players not to take too many risks, but despite that we had 17 shots on target while playing with nine players from our youth ranks.

"We played like ourselves in a match which was really demanding. Milan are satisfied with the result and that is the biggest compliment we can get from a club with seven European Cups."

Guardiola added his belief that Barca were stifled somewhat by the San Siro pitch, which he felt prevented the game from being a better contest.

"Milan should take some measures," Guardiola said. "We play where we are told to play, but I do not think that Inter and Milan want a pitch with these conditions.

"It is bad for the spectacle, but to be champions we must overcome all adversities. We have done this many times, although people say otherwise."

The second leg of the quarter-final will be played at Camp Nou next Tuesday, with Milan looking to repeat their 2-2 draw away to the Catalans in this season's Champions League group stage.
