Rogic tempted to stay put in A-League

Teenage Central Coast Mariners sensation Tom Rogic says he may heed the advice of coach Graham Arnold and remain in the A-League for another season before attempting to resume his career overseas.

Rogic, 19, has been a revelation for the Mariners since he was signed in January after a move to English club Reading fell through after failing to gain a work permit.

The midfielder's dazzling displays have prompted many pundits to declare him a future Socceroos star and attracted interest from rival A-League clubs, though it seems inevitable he will return to play in Europe in the near future.

While Arnold is one of his biggest admirers he said this week he felt the youngster was still in need of further development and should stay in the A-League for another campaign.

And a level-headed Rogic said he would take his coach's advice on board when he decides on his future at the end of the season.

"The standard of the A-League is getting a lot better and I think it's at a great level right now," Rogic said.

"I think I still have a lot of work to do and a lot of things to improve on to become a better player so staying here in Australia I don't think is a bad idea.

"For myself, I'm just focusing on training and playing and come season's end, I think I'll make a decision for my future."

Canberra-born Rogic caught Reading's attention after he was chosen in a worldwide search to train at the Nike Academy in London and said the collapse of the move was "probably one of the lowest points in my short career".

But Rogic is now pinching himself after helping the Mariners to the A-League premiership and he shapes as a key part of their bid to add the championship, starting in Saturday's major semi-final first leg against Brisbane at Suncorp Stadium.

"When I signed for the club I didn't expect the last few months to turn out how they have but it's been great and I'm very grateful to have the opportunity to play," Rogic said.

"I don't think there'd be too many players in their first few months of playing winning some silverware, so it's been great.

"To get to win the grand final would be unreal, but we've just got to take it a game at a time."
