Adam out for the season?

Liverpool midfielder Charlie Adam could miss the rest of the season after suffering a knee ligament injury in the 3-2 defeat against QPR.

• Lucas targeting comeback

Adam, a £10 million summer buy from Blackpool, has scored only two goals and not enjoyed the best time on Merseyside but has been an important player in central midfield as the club look to cope with the absence of Lucas Leiva.

However, after damaging his lateral collateral knee ligament the Scottish international faces surgery - a decision that will be made in around a fortnight - and could have played his last game this season.

Manager Kenny Dalglish insists that the club will wait and see before making a final choice.

"We know Charlie has strained knee ligaments, but we still don't know how long he will be out," Dalglish said. "He hasn't had an operation and as it stands he's not having one.

"It's only been a week since he did it. He needs to rest it for another 10 days or so and then he will be reassessed.

"We'll see how he is then and we'll be in a better position to know when he will be back playing. We haven't ruled him out for the rest of the season. We're just waiting to see how he progresses."

Youngster Jonjo Shelvey has been tipped to replace Adam in central midfield as the Reds look to build on their Carling Cup win by beating rivals Everton in the FA Cup semi-finals and attempt to end as high as possible in the Premier League.
