Juve win Derby d'Italia

Juventus claimed a 2-0 victory over Inter Milan in the Derby d'Italia in Turin on Sunday to keep the pressure on league leaders AC Milan.

Following a first half in which both sides had chances, and Gianluigi Buffon had to produce several saves, Juve took the lead just before the hour mark when Martin Caceres was given space to head home from a corner.

Mirko Vucinic might have then made it two but for a tame finish when clean through on goal, but veteran striker Alessandro Del Piero did double the advantage soon afterwards with a tidy finish.

Juve continued to have the better of the chances, and Maicon needed to make a block on the goal-line from Fabio Quagliarella after a Giorgio Chiellini ball to the far post, but there were no further goals.

The result sees Juve move back to within four points of Milan at the top of the table, with the Rossoneri having battled to a 2-1 victory over Roma on Saturday, while Inter are a point behind Catania in eighth.

Lazio opened up a three-point cushion over Napoli and Udinese as they recorded a late 1-0 triumph over Cagliari to boost their Champions League hopes.

Just as the game at the Stadio Olimpico appeared to be heading for a stalemate, Lazio's Mobido Diakite headed in Cristian Ledesma's cross two minutes from time to hand the Biancoceleste three valuable points.

Lazio hold the last Champions League qualifying spot and are now three points clear of fifth-placed Udinese, who drew 1-1 at Palermo on Saturday, and fourth-placed Napoli, who conceded two goals in the final 15 minutes in a 2-2 draw with Catania at the Stadio San Paolo.

Napoli, going into the game having taken 16 points from their last six games, stormed into a two-goal lead thanks to efforts from Blerim Dzemaili and the prolific Edinson Cavani, but seventh-placed Catania, pulling one back through Nicolas Spolli before substitute Davide Lanzafame netted the leveller five minutes from time.

Genoa and Fiorentina played out a 2-2 draw as they both remained in the bottom half of the table.

Fernando Belluschi put the home side in front in the 21st minute before Riccardo Montolivo and Cesare Natali turned the game around, but a late strike from Rodrigo Palacio salvaged Genoa a point.

Midtable sides Chievo and Siena played out a 1-1 draw. Chievo had taken the lead through Francesco Acerbi with nine minutes gone, but were unable to hold out for the remainder of the game as Mattia Destro levelled six minutes after the break.

Relegation-threatened Parma twice struck the woodwork as they had to settle for a 2-2 draw at bottom side Cesena.

Sergio Floccari put the visitors ahead in the 40th minute before goals from Mario Santana and Simone Del Nero shortly after the restart handed Cesena a 2-1 lead. Gabriel Paletta equalised on 61 minutes and Parma were unlucky not to claim victory after substitute Francesco Valiani hit the post 13 minutes from time.

The result at the Dino Manuzzi stadium left Parma 17th in the standings, five points clear of the drop zone, while Cesena are winless in their last 11 games and lie 14 points from safety with nine games remaining.

Novara came within inches of snatching a last-gasp win over Lecce but had to settle for a goalless draw that leaves both teams in deep relegation trouble.

With four minutes of stoppage time having already been played, Novara made one last push and substitute Takayuki Morimoto almost covered himself in glory only to see his left-footed effort crash against the crossbar.

Atalanta leapfrogged Bologna in the Serie A standings with a 2-0 triumph in Bergamo.

Manolo Gabbiadini put the hosts on their way early in the second half and, although Bologna pressed for an equaliser, they were caught on the counter-attack as Simone Tiribocchi secured the win for Atalanta in stoppage time.

The victory, Atalanta's 10th of the campaign, saw the Bergamaschi climb to ninth in the standings, 11 points clear of the relegation zone.
