Stoke boss Pulis 'desperate' for points

Stoke manager Tony Pulis has targeted ''as many points as we can'' from the remaining Premier League fixtures as they look to secure their place in the top flight.

Stoke face title-chasing Manchester City on Saturday - live on ESPN UK - and after Wednesday night's 1-1 draw with Tottenham, are in high spirits.

Last season's FA Cup finalists are currently in 11th place in the table and are three points off the '40-point safety mark' that is usually enough to see a team stay up. Pulis, though, is taking nothing for granted.

"We're desperate to get as many points as we can now and if we put the effort and commitment in that we've put in [against Tottenham] then we'll be ok," he told reporters.

"On the back of playing Liverpool on Saturday, I thought that the commitment and the effort was absolutely first class.

"It's what the club's about, it's what the players are about, it's what the dressing room is all about."

Welcoming City to the Britannia is a tough test and Pulis is in no doubts over the quality of Saturday's opposition.

"What can you say? Whoever they play, their first team or their second team or third team their fantastic players," he said. "They've got what they've got because they've bought great players for a hell of a lot of money."
