Madrid boycott press conference

Real Madrid will not hold a press conference ahead of their game against Real Sociedad on Saturday.

• Villarreal 1-1 Real Madrid

Madrid were left angered after their 1-1 draw with Villarreal on Wednesday night as manager Jose Mourinho, fitness coach Rui Faria and players Sergio Ramos and Mesut Ozil were sent off in the closing stages.

There was also a suggestion that Villarreal striker Marco Ruben may have received two bookings without being dismissed, though it has since emerged that Marcos Senna was the recipient of the 20th-minute yellow card.

Mourinho, who was sent to the stands when protesting referee Jose Paradas Romero's decision to award the free-kick from which Senna scored the equalising goal, did not attend the post-match press conference on Wednesday, but Marcelo made clear the feeling in the camp.

"Referees hurt us too much sometimes, but we must hold our heads high and move on," Marcelo said, adding: "You saw what happened and how many of us were sent off."

The players trained behind closed doors on Thursday and Madrid have confirmed that neither Mourinho nor assistant Aitor Karanka will be available to speak to the media on Friday ahead of the Real Sociedad game.

Villarreal's Angel Lopez believes Madrid have no justification for their complaints.

"They're trying to put pressure [on officials] for upcoming matches," he said. "We might argue that Lass [Diarra] should have been dismissed, or that we should have had a penalty when Nilmar was fouled, but you can't do anything about it. As they say in my hometown, they can go cry in a park.

"It was fortunate for us yesterday that the referee had a strong personality. I've known him for many years and he sent me off in the past for the same thing Ozil did."

He added: "We all like to win and, when you don't achieve what you set out to do, you're a little upset."
