Brazilian Marco Polo Del Nero will replace compatriot Ricardo Teixeira as one of three South American representatives on FIFA's executive committee.
CONMEBOL confirmed that Del Nero, the president of the Sao Paulo state federation, would join Paraguayan Nicolas Leoz and Argentina's Julio Grondona on the powerful committee.
Teixeira resigned from the executive committee on Tuesday, citing "personal reasons". The 64-year-old last week stepped down from his roles as president of the Brazilian confederation (CBF) and president of the 2014 World Cup organising committee on health grounds.
Del Nero is 71 and a lawyer who specialises in criminal law.
