Barton: Boo-boys won't break me

QPR's Joey Barton has hit back at the fans that booed him during Wednesday night's thrilling comeback against Liverpool, insisting "they won't break me".

• Dalglish can't explain defeat

Barton, 29, has struggled for form of late and after a disappointing display against Liverpool at Loftus Road he was replaced by manager Mark Hughes on 62 minutes, with sections of supporters booing the former Newcastle player.

The midfielder accepts the level of his performances have dipped of late but he has not been left impressed by those choosing to react negatively rather than offer support.

Barton wrote on Twitter after the game: "Disappointed with fans booing, we're meant to be in it together. They won't break me, guaranteed. I've been through much worse.

"I was awful tonight. Worst I've ever played in my career. But we won ... and that's the most important thing. Onwards and upwards.

"Enough of the negative **** anyway. What a ******* result, great spirit shown by the boys and loyal fans tonight. Not the bells that booed.

"Form is temporary, class is permanent."

QPR boss Mark Hughes claimed not to have noticed Barton's frosty reception, the Welshman having overseen a fine turnaround against Liverpool after his side trailed 2-0 to win 3-2 with Barton's replacement Jamie Mackie netting the winner.

Hughes said: "I was not aware of that. Joey was not having the best of times. It was unfortunate that maybe a few felt the need to possibly boo him, but Joey is very strong as we all know.

"He won't let it affect him and he will play a big part in what we do from now until the end of the season. Tonight was not his night, but there will be other nights."
