Lyon's hopes of securing a top-three finish in Ligue 1 have been hit with the news that captain Cris will miss the next month with a calf injury.
Cris, 34, suffered the injury late in Saturday's 1-0 win at St Etienne. "He is out for four weeks,'' manager Remi Garde told L'Equipe.
"It is a big blow. He was in good form against St Etienne and brings a lot of experience to the group.''
Lyon are currently fifth in the Ligue 1 table, four points behind third-placed Lille. Third will be good enough to secure a Champions League qualifying spot at the end of the season.
They also face Paris St Germain in the quarter-finals of the Coupe de France this week.
