Harry talks up Hazard swoop

Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp has sent out a message to chairman Daniel Levy that the club need to spend big this summer if they are to compete with their Premier League rivals.

Redknapp has been able to bring in the likes of Rafael Van der Vaart and Scott Parker in recent seasons, but his transfer spending has paled in comparson with his rivals for a Champions Leagu place.

"If you want to be a top four team, you have to do that," he said. "If you want to compete with Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool and the two Manchester clubs you have to buy top players. They're all doing it."

"Now we've got to keep pushing on," Redknapp said. "I think the club would do if we came up with the right targets. It's good that we can compete for top players, and that's what we want to do. The chairman is ambitious; we all are."

When pressed on Hazard, following the Belgian's recent positive response to Spurs' interest, Redknapp made no effort to hide his enthusiasm.

"He [Hazard] is a player that's on our list. I watched him last year about three times and this year a couple of times. He can do special things. He's a fantastic player, but I don't know where the club's at with that. The chairman will deal with that. If anyone's talking to Lille it would be the chairman, not me."

Tottenham will face stiff competition for his signature though, with both Manchester United and Real Madrid known admirers of the Lille starlet.
