De Jong demanding silverware

Nigel de Jong believes Manchester City's season will be deemed a failure if they finish the 2011-12 campaign trophyless.

• Man City v Sporting preview

City's 1-0 loss at Swansea City on Sunday allowed their rivals United to leapfrog them in the Premier League table with ten matches of the season left to play.

Roberto Mancini's side are also competing in the Europa League, with the club looking to overturn a one-goal deficit in the second leg of their last 16 tie with Sporting Lisbon on Thursday night.

Having tasted glory at Wembley when the side lifted the FA Cup last May, De Jong has urged his team-mates to not have any regrets come the end of the current campaign as they look to add to their trophy cabinet.

The Netherlands international said: "We are still in two main competitions and the only way we can succeed is to win one of the prizes.

"You always go for the prizes and we will be very disappointed if, at the end of the day, we end up with no trophies. Everyone is hungry for more after winning the FA Cup last season and that always has to be the ambition of this club.

"The main goal is the Premier League and we still have a chance. But we are still in the Europa League.

"We said at the start of the season we want to be in as many competitions as we can, so staying in them has to be our aim until the end of the season. It will need a lot of strength and power from us but we have a big enough squad."
