Ballack to look at future abroad

Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Michael Ballack has admitted he will be looking to move abroad this summer when his contract at the BayArena expires.

Ballack, 35, was tipped to leave the Bundesliga high-fliers in January but will first see out the duration of his current deal before departing for pastures new.

"Nothing has been decided yet," Ballack said in an interview with Sky Sports Germany. "However, I want a new challenge which is likely to be abroad."

Ballack returned to Leverkusen in 2010 after four years in west London with Chelsea, but the return has not been as successful as he had hoped.

"I had other offers when I decided to return. It was a matter of love," Ballack continued. "I think there were internal communication problems in terms of my role in the team."

The midfielder, who amassed 98 caps for the German national side, has been linked with a move to China, the MLS or the Middle East.
