Poyet keen on Spurs and Chelsea jobs

Brighton manager Gus Poyet admits it would be hard to turn down an offer to become manager of Tottenham or Chelsea.

The Blues are on the hunt for a new manager following the sacking of Andre Villas-Boas, while the Spurs job could become available with manager Harry Redknapp the favourite to become England manager at the end of the season.

Poyet has proved his managerial credentials after securing promotion to the Championship with Brighton last season, and with the Seagulls in the play-off places they remain in the hunt for back-to-back promotions.

And Poyet, who received the Outstanding Managerial Achievment Award at an awards ceremony in London on Sunday, believes he is ready for the challenge of managing in the Premier League.

"When the chance comes to manage in the Premier League, I am ready, because it is a different challenge," Poyet told Sky Sports News.

"I think it is easier to deal with the challenges now with Brighton. I have got a long term contract, everything is fine, I'm relaxed, I can do my work, and if in a few years we don't make it then of course you try to move on."

Poyet, who spent four seasons at Chelsea before joining Tottenham in 2001, was assistant manager to Juande Ramos at Spurs, and he admits he would find it hard to say no if either of his former clubs were to come calling.

"I would say we would have a problem - the chairman knows that," Poyet said of any potential approach from Chelsea or Tottenham. "I am not saying I am leaving but we have got a problem for sure.

"I think these clubs that you played for in my case, Spurs and Chelsea, normally you are closer to them and it is easier because they know you - they know your personality and how proficient you are.

"But it is not in my hands, it is in the chairmens' hands. We will wait and see. I think that there is going to be opportunities, but maybe we will make it with Brighton, so who knows? I am trying to be honest with everyone, I think the chairman knows what I want to do, but definitely the aim is the Premier League."
