Harry waves off England theory

Harry Redknapp has said that the continued speculation over his suitability for the England manager's role has not had an adverse affect on Tottenham's recent form.

• Spurs blog: The threat to third

Ever since Fabio Capello left the post at the beginning of February, Redknapp has been lauded as the hot favourite for the job, but after his side lost 3-1 at home to Manchester United on Sunday off the back of a 5-2 defeat at Arsenal the previous week Redknapp insisted that neither his nor his players' focus had shifted.

"No not at all, it's had no effect," Redknapp said of the ongoing England link. "You couldn't come away and say the players haven't been trying, they've worked hard.

"It's one of the two best teams in the country," he continued, after seeing his Spurs side slide to their second defeat in as many games. "I really felt they (United) were there to be beaten. I've not seen Alex (Ferguson) on his feet so much in years, it wasn't going their way. But that's how it goes sometimes in football, you don't always get what you deserve."

At 13 points off league leaders Manchester City and 11 behind United, Redknapp conceded that the target was now finishing in third place. Despite a resurgent Arsenal closing in Redknapp remains confident that is an achievable feat.

"It's going to be tight but I'd rather be where we are than Arsenal, we're four points in front still and we've still got a big chance," he said. "I'm looking to finish third, not fourth, I'll be disappointed if we finish fourth. I'll be even more disappointed if we finish fifth. We've got some tough games to come. I still feel we can go on a run and I still fancy us to finish third.

"Chelsea... Well unless Mourinho comes in that's not going to affect it, and I don't think he'll come in this week."
