UAE club bid for Gyan

Asamoah Gyan looks increasingly unlikely to return to Sunderland with the Premier League club receiving a bid for the Ghanaian striker from the United Arab Emirates.

Gyan, who surprisingly left Sunderland to join United Arab Emirates side Al-Ain on loan for a large fee in September, is reluctant to return to the Stadium of Light and is a transfer target for an unnamed club in the Middle East.

The 26-year-old will have two years left on his Sunderland contract at the end the current UAE Pro-League season, and his future could have a major bearing on manager Martin O'Neill's transfer plans at Sunderland.

Al-Ain are keen to turn Gyan's season-long loan into a permanent transfer but O'Neill said last week that they were not the only club in the UAE showing an interest.

On Gyan's possible return to the Stadium of Light, O'Neill told the Chronicle: "I know I said some weeks ago that I'd be hoping to speak to him. But one day has run into the next and I haven't had a chance.

"I don't think the position [of Al-Ain] has changed that much. But there was another club out there in the United Arab Emirates looking at his services."

Gyan joined Sunderland from French club Rennes during the summer of 2010.
