No agreement over Copa

A meeting to try to thrash out a date and venue for this season's Copa del Rey final has broken up without agreement.

Representatives from finalists Barcelona and Athletic Bilbao met with officials from the Spanish football federation (RFEF) at their headquarters in Las Rozas to discuss a fixture which is proving tough to schedule.

A short statement on Athletic's website confirmed the failure of the meeting to resolve the situation.

It had been expected the game would be played at Real Madrid's Bernabeu stadium, but Real have claimed scheduled repair work makes that impossible, with others claiming Madrid president Florentino Perez does not want a rival club celebrating in his ground.

At the meeting, Barcelona advocated playing the game on May 25 at the Vincente Calderon in Madrid, home to Atletico, while Athletic wanted to see the fixture take place at Sevilla's stadium on May 20, only a day after the Champions League final.

With no agreement reached, the RFEF is now expected to make its own decision on Tuesday.
