No blame over Gerrard injury

Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish could be without Steven Gerrard for Saturday's Premier League clash with Arsenal but has refused to blame England for his captain's injury.

England midfielder Gerrard started Wednesday night's 3-2 defeat to Netherlands at Wembley but came off after just 32 minutes of the friendly after complaining of a hamstring problem.

The 31-year-old had played 120 minutes in the Carling Cup triumph over Cardiff on Sunday and was back at Wembley a little over 72 hours later.

Liverpool have yet to assess the extent of the problem, as the players are not due back at the club's Melwood training ground until late on Thursday afternoon, but Dalglish will not hold England's interim boss Stuart Pearce responsible, whatever the outcome.

"Until we know exactly what has happened it is difficult for us to presume anything," Dalglish said. "I have fantastic respect for 'Pearcey' - he played for us (under Dalglish at Newcastle).

"He is a really straight, honest guy so I don't think he would do anything harmful to the football club".

Although the extent of Gerrard's injury is yet to be established, Dalglish confirmed Liverpool are likely to be without Daniel Agger for a number of weeks.

Agger fractured a rib during the Carling Cup final and after sitting out Denmark's friendly with Russia on Wednesday, it has been confirmed the defender is facing an extended spell on the sidelines.

"He's got a fractured rib, so maybe it will be a few weeks," Dalglish told the club's official website. "Anybody that is injured is a miss. Daniel has been playing fantastically well this year, but we'll miss anybody that is not fit and available.

"The squad is there to cover eventualities, injuries and suspensions - and we'll need to cover for Daniel if he's going to be out for a few weeks."
